Women's basketball releases schedule

Cavaliers to play in Charlottesville 17 times in 2014-15

The Virginia women’s basketball team released its 2014-15 schedule Tuesday. The Cavaliers hope to improve on their 14-17 record from a year ago, during which they failed to make the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia’s schedule features 17 home games, eight of which will be against ACC opponents. The Cavaliers will also play in eight conference away games, the only overlap between home and away contests coming with Virginia Tech and Louisville.

The Cavaliers’ non-conference schedule is highlighted by the Dec. 3 matchup against Illinois in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Last year, the Cavaliers faced Michigan in the same game and fell 73-53.

Also in non-conference competition, Virginia will host the annual Cavalier Classic in late December. Davidson, Drexel, and Miami (Ohio) will travel to Charlottesville to compete in the tournament.

Virginia opens the season Nov. 14 when Ohio State travels to John Paul Jones Arena. Tip-off for the season is set for 7 p.m.
