Outgoing University President Teresa Sullivan will advise the Board of Trustees for Michigan State University — her undergraduate alma mater — as it searches for a new university president in the coming months.
“Identifying a new president for Michigan State University is an extremely important process and as a respected, accomplished member of the academy and collegiate administrator, Dr. Sullivan is well positioned to offer insight and advice to the board,” Brian Breslin , the chairman of the MSU Board of Trustees, said in a statement.
Then-MSU President Lou Anna Simon resigned in January after news reports revealed that MSU physician Larry Nassar sexually abused more than 150 women, including several Olympic gymnasts. Nassar was later sentenced to between 40 and 125 years for his actions, and MSU administrators were criticized for failing to intervene.
Former Michigan Governor John Engler was then appointed by the MSU Board of Trustees to serve as MSU’s interim university president.
Sullivan will be paid $1,000 for each eight-hour day, according to The Detroit Free Press, though she will not accept payment until she ends her tenure as University President this summer. After Aug. 1, University President-elect Jim Ryan will begin his term as university president.
