Towards the end of March, Timothy Longo, chief of the University Police Department and vice president for security and safety, issued two community alerts relating to burglary incidents on the 100 block of Culbreth Road — one March 23 and the other March 30. In a recent update, the University Police Department said they arrested a suspect — 68-year old Albemarle County resident Joseph G. Moore.
Both break-ins occurred at the Sigma Nu fraternity house at 189 Culbreth Road, though the University Police Department has not disclosed what items were taken in either burglary. Moore was arrested without incident April 3 and is currently being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Moore is charged with two counts of felony breaking & entering, felony grand larceny and misdemeanor unlawful entry. He is also charged with one count of both misdemeanor petit larceny and felony driving after forfeiture of license.
According to the University Department of Safety and Security, no further information will be provided in the interest of preserving the integrity of the investigative and prosecutorial process.
