Privacy is not merely a technical shield against data leaks or hacks — it is a baseline human right that shapes how students learn, organize and speak.
So long as students’ power is limited to an advisory role in the administration, governance at the University will remain fragile.
Departmental budgets, staff and course offerings in the humanities will be tightened, while curricular innovation moves elsewhere. This shift tilts the University’s identity away from its liberal arts foundations.
By attempting to contain, or even eliminate uncomfortable narratives, the administration incrementally consolidates power and frays communal trust.
Now is the time to act, proving our commitment by protecting and expanding programs that keep the University open and accessible to all.
Housing and a meal plan are not payments so much as the bare minimum for RAs to exist at all.
We need to reconsider how we think about extracurriculars — this hyper-competitive and exclusive culture which implicitly frames clubs as resume-padders must be stopped.
The Crossings, Virginia Supportive Housing’s Charlottesville-based apartment complex, will receive $110,000 in funding from the grant.
