Hall receives ACC award for defense

The ACC announced its 2001 All-ACC Defensive Team yesterday. Its members are Virginia junior forward Adam Hall, Maryland's Juan Dixon, Brendan Haywood of North Carolina, Georgia Tech's Alvin Jones and Shane Battier of Duke.

Hall finished Virginia's regular season with 82 defensive rebounds and averaged 5.4 rebounds. He also recorded 34 steals.

Dixon averaged 2.62 steals per game, and Haywood led the ACC with 3.75 blocked shots per game. Battier ranks third in the ACC with 2.07 steals per game and fourth with 2.17 blocked shots.

Six Virginia swimmers head to NCAAs

Six swimmers will represent Virginia at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday through Saturday in East Meadow, Mass.

Competing for the Cavaliers will be freshmen Amy Baly and Carlie Dykehouse, sophomores Cara Lane and Mirjana Bosevska, junior Megan Roesch and senior Megan Iffland. Roesch will swim in two events, and the other five Cavaliers take to the pool for three events each.

Virginia will also enter teams in the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays.

    Cara Lane, Virginia's top performer, is the favorite in the 1,650 free and is the fifth seed in the 500 free and the tenth seed in the 200 butterfly.

    Baseball canceled at Old Dominion

    Virginia's baseball game at Old Dominion, scheduled for yesterday, was canceled due to inclement weather in the Norfolk area. No make-up day has been announced.

    The Cavaliers' season continues when Virginia (7-4) hits the road for six consecutive contests. The Cavaliers begin at Florida State (March 9-11) and continue at High Point (March 12). They will then head to UNC-Greensboro (March 13-14) before returning home to play 13 consecutive home games, the first in a three-game series against Duke (March 16-18).
