Sophomore Luke Anderson was named ACC men's swimmer of the week for the third time this season for his performance against Maryland on Saturday. Anderson won both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle in the Cavaliers' win over their ACC rivals.

Anderson's outstanding performance was not limited to the individual events. He swam the breaststroke leg on the victorious 200 medley relay and also was a part of the Cavaliers 400 free relay that posted the top time despite being forced to exhibition the event.

Friedgen says no to the pros

Maryland head football coach Ralph Friedgen decided he will stay at the school for another season despite interviewing with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Terrapins are coming off a 10-2 season in 2001. They won the ACC title for the first time since 1986 and played in the Orange Bowl. Friedgen was honored as The Associated Press College Coach of the Year.

"It's very flattering to be considered after so many years of not being considered," Friedgen said after his meetings with the Bucs.

Tampa Bay remains without a coach a month after firing former head coach Tony Dungy. The Bucs previously were unable to come to terms with former New York Giants, New York Jets and New England Patriots coach Bill Parcells or Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis.

On Monday, Lewis accepted the defensive coordinator position for the Washington Redskins.
