Give Brown a chance

Bennett Sorbo's "parting shots" at the University ("A shot across the bow," March 3), while excellently showcasing why he was not allowed to write any columns earlier, saddened me with its depiction of Brown Residential College.

In the words of a former resident, Brown is "a place for the interesting and the interested." Because of its many conveniences and unique reputation, people of all types apply to live in Brown every semester. Current residents rank the applications and favor those that show off creativity and a willingness to be involved in Brown's tight-knit community.

While it is true that Brown does accept its fair share of eccentrics, Sorbo blurs the truth and fiction when he calls it a place where tour guides will shockingly find "a magician fighting a warlock." Warlock Studies has not been a major in the College since 1996. It is somewhat offensive that The Cavalier Daily would not be more fastidious with its fact checks. I welcome the incoming managing board and hope they strive to correct this.
