The Skinny: The No. 4 Virginia rowing team travels to Columbus, Ohio this weekend for an all-day meet Saturday, where it will take on No. 3 Ohio State and No. 6 Michigan. With a power-packed weekend on the books, the Cavaliers need the same strength they have shown so far this spring season.
Last weekend, Virginia took four of five races on the Rivanna River against then-No.6 Yale. The Cavalier’s first Varsity Eight opened the weekend with a close call, fighting back from a half-length deficit before rowing to victory. The team then dominated the Bulldogs in all but one event.
That type of command on the waters will be tested this weekend as they take on two tough teams. Ohio State, after dominating the majority of its season opener, sits at the No. 3 ranking, behind No. 1 Brown. Michigan, on the other hand, jumped five places after an impressive showing at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational earlier this month.
A challenging weekend lies ahead for Virginia, but the team’s recent race results are a promising sign that the Cavaliers are ready to take on these formidable opponents.

Women’s Golf
What: Bryan National Collegiate
When: Friday-Sunday; all day
Where: Browns Summit, N.C.
The Skinny: No. 20 Virginia heads to North Carolina to compete in the Bryan National Collegiate tournament, hosted by unranked UNC-Greensboro and No. 49 Wake Forest. The tournament plays host to multiple top-50 teams, including the No. 21 Florida State, No. 28 East Carolina and No. 30 South Carolina.
Coming off an impressive showing in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate tournament where the Cavaliers placed second, Virginia looks to continue its strong close to the season. All eyes will be on senior Lauren Coughlin, who tied for runner-up at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, and fellow senior Elizabeth Szokol, who placed seventh. The individual and overall top-10 finishes are promising signs for the Cavaliers heading into this weekend.
North Carolina and South Carolina — both of whom also took home top-10 finishes at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate — will be in attendance in Browns Summit. Junior Katelyn Dambaugh, the South Carolina star who gave Szokol a run for her money in their last meeting, will compete as well.
This weekend’s star-studded event will finish off Virginia’s regular season before the ACC Championships. Another strong showing could set the team up nicely as it prepares to head back to North Carolina for the conference championship.

Men’s Tennis
What: No. 3 Virginia (16-2, 6-0 ACC) vs. No. 1 North Carolina (20-1, 5-1 ACC), No. 75 Duke (10-10, 3-4 ACC)
When: Friday, 3 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m.
Where: Chapel Hill, N.C.; Durham, N.C.
The Skinny: The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team has a pair of big matches this weekend. On Friday, the Cavaliers will travel down to Chapel Hill to take on No. 1 North Carolina. Then, on Sunday the Cavaliers will take the short road down to Durham to matchup against No. 75 Duke.
The Friday matchup against the Tar Heels will take place at 3 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, while the Sunday match against Duke will be held at the Ambler Tennis Stadium.
The Cavaliers will be looking for revenge against a UNC team that beat them in the final of the ITA Indoor National Championships earlier in the season. With a pair of victories this weekend, the Cavaliers could reclaim the No. 1 ranking that they occupied earlier this season.

Where: Snyder Tennis Courts
The Virginia women’s tennis team is set to have two big home matches this weekend. The Cavaliers will host Duke Friday and Georgia Tech Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Courts.
Both matches are likely to be highly contested, as Duke is coming in ranked No. 10 and Georgia Tech No. 16. Senior leaders Danielle Collins, Julia Elbaba and Stephanie Nauta will lead the way for the Cavaliers, stressing the importance of these ACC matchups to the younger members of the team. A strong performance could move the Cavaliers into the top ten in the national rankings.
