Senior Carey Danforth picked up a point for Virginia Tuesday in the team's loss to George Washington.

The Virginia men’s and women’s squash teams both traveled to the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts in Washington, D.C. to start the week off with matches against the George Washington Colonials.

The No. 13 women’s team played an important match Tuesday, as the Colonials are only ranked one spot above them at No. 12. The higher-ranked team ultimately came out on top, however, as the Colonials defeated the Cavaliers in a well-contested 6-4 match. The four Virginia points came from senior Carey Danforth, junior Annie Tyson, junior Madeleine Mayhew and sophomore Elle Carroll in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth positions, respectively.

The No. 17 men also suffered a loss on the day, as the No. 11 Colonials proved to be too much, defeating Virginia by a score of 7-3. The Cavaliers started off with a deficit that proved to be insurmountable, as George Washington won each of the first six matches played. Senior Mason Blake, freshman Chris Dalglish and junior James Dudzik were the three victorious Cavaliers on the day, playing in the first, seventh and ninth positions. Dalglish actually played two matches on the day, as he also played in the eighth spot, which he dropped.

Both the men and women will return to action this Saturday as they take on both Columbia and Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y.
