Senate Committee passes student BOV member bill
By Tina Hong | February 1, 2000A Virginia Senate committee has passed a bill requiring each state public college and university to have a non-voting student member on their board of visitors. The Code of Virginia now states that "the board of visitors of any four-year state institution of higher education may appoint one or more nonvoting student representatives to the board." The Virginia Student Leadership Alliance, a group of student government representatives from various schools in Virginia, lobbied successfully to get the bill, SB 352, drafted two weeks ago.
