Women's rowing wins two races

The Virginia women's rowing team doubled its pleasure, capturing two competitions in Sunday's Princeton Chase. The Cavs edged Rutgers by one second to win the women's four competition and also finished first in the women's pair competition.

Virginia's "B" and "C" boats tied for sixth in the women's four, while the "D" boat finished 16th in the 33-boat competition.

The Cavaliers locked themselves in a three-way tie with Cornell and Harvard for fifth place in the women's eight, finishing behind Princeton, Yale, Boston University and Michigan State. The Cavs' "B" boat tied for eighth and the "C" boat finished 14th out of 37 entries.

In the four-boat singles competition, Virginia finished second.

Media representatives attending the ACC's annual Operation Basketball event Sunday picked the Virginia men's basketball team to finish fifth in the nine-team conference. The Cavaliers finished tied for third last season and return four starters.
