Thanks to the arm of pitcher Dan Street, who pitched a two-hit shutout through seven innings, the Virginia baseball team (3-0) completed a three-game sweep of Navy (0-3) yesterday.
Virginia scored four runs in the first inning off of Navy pitcher Brian Pennell, including RBI singles by shortstop Hunter Wyant, catcher Mark Rueffert, and right fielder Chris Sweet, to put them ahead early.
The Cavaliers won both games of Saturday's doubleheader with Navy as well. In game one, Virginia used an eight-run fifth inning to win 9-1. In the second game, Cavaliers' pitcher Joseph Koshansky struck out seven batters and allowed just two runs in seven innings.
Virginia will host Penn State this weekend.
Women's swimming finishes second at ACCs
The North Carolina women successfully defended their ACC Swimming and Diving Championship this year, defeating second-place Virginia by 183.5 points.
Although the Cavaliers failed to win the ACC trophy, Virginia sophomore Cara Lane was named unanimous winner of the championship's Most Valuable Player award given by the ACC coaches. She also won the award last year.
