The actual motive

The Cavalier Daily article on the Virginia abortion debacle ("Board approves abortion clinic regulations," Sept. 19) was completely lacking in context and information. Here are the facts about abortion in Virginia: There are approximately 26,000 abortions performed in Virginia every year, yet from 1999 to 2009 only a single death could be blamed on abortion according to a Sept. 13 Dailypress.com column, "Emergency Regulations' threaten Virginia's abortion clinics." Abortion is extremely safe, and any supposed public health threat from clinics is an utter fiction.

More importantly, the new regulations have little to do with women's safety. The new requirements for clinics involve "minimum width of hallways; ceiling height
